New York – October 30, 2018 – Over the past three years, Macy’s historic Downtown Brooklyn store underwent a renovation, transforming it into a modern fashion epicenter for the borough. The retail landmark has been reconfigured with an improved layout and new architectural and structural elements. The newly improved downtown destination for style now boasts a dynamic store environment that is a contemporary reflection of the vibrant community it serves. The store, which remained open throughout the renovation, will host a series of special events to commemorate its grand reopening November 8 – November 11.

“The renovation of Macy’s Downtown Brooklyn illustrates our firm commitment to the Fulton Street retail community and our loyal customers. We are proud to present our customers with an updated store environment, enhanced merchandise offerings, and an elevated level of customer service,” said Kizzie Tunson, Vice President Store Manager of Macy’s Downtown Brooklyn. “There are so many new treasures to discover at every turn of our vibrant store. We anticipate everyone in the community will find a reason to come in and take a second look at their local Macy’s.”

The building, once home to the headquarters and flagship of the former Abraham & Straus nameplate, boasts a brand new top to bottom interior. Macy’s operates out of the lower level and first four floors of the two original buildings — the 1870s Second Empire and the 1930 Art Deco. New elevator and escalator installations enhance the shopping and store experience within the approximately 278,000 square-foot store.

For the first time in the store’s history, modifications such as the leveling of floor elevations have been made to create a unified selling space. The renovation brought about substantial and noticeable changes to the selling floors providing customers with an elevated assortment of new brands and product offerings.

The Lower Level houses a breathtaking Furniture and Home Store including mattresses and festive top of table favorites.

A new LensCrafters has been added to the Main Floor near the Livingston entrance. Adjacent to the LensCrafters is an At Your Service center which gives omni-channel customers the convenience that they are looking for and improves the overall experience in the store. Many customer service activities such as returns, exchanges, bill payment, and buy online pick up in store are handled by the dedicated At Your Service staff.

Post remodel, the Main Floor’s Handbags and Jewelry departments now include the popular Radley, DKNY, Patricia Nash, and Brahmin brands. The Cosmetics department was expanded to 18,000 square-feet and now features beauty brands like Dior, Bobby Brown, Kiehl’s, Urban Decay, NYX, Philosophy, IT Cosmetics, Smashbox, Tarte, Anastasia, Tweezer Man, Juicy Couture, Bare Minerals, and Benefit Cosmetics. Women’s shoes have been relocated to the Main Floor from the second floor.

The second floor Men’s department has been improved with brand additions including Super Dry, G-Star, Armani Exchange, DKNY, Michael Kors, Lacoste, Hudson, and Reason. Men will also enjoy a newly added Big and Tall shop.

On the third floor, Women’s Ready-to-Wear and Juniors have received brand additions including DKNY, Rachel Rachel Roy, Guess, Dickies, Juicy Couture, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, BCBGMAXAZRIA, and plus size brand, City Chic. Suit Separates, Petites, and Swim categories have also been added.

Enhancements have been made to the shopping experience for men and women with the addition of MyStylist @ Macys; a personalized, complimentary shopping service. Located on the third floor, Downtown Brooklyn’s MyStylist @ Macy’s is dedicated to finding the perfect fashions for every customer. In addition to style consultations, the MyStylist @ Macy’s guides shoppers in selecting the best gifts for all occasions for friends and family. MyStylist @ Macy’s is fun, fast, free, and requires no minimum purchase.

The fourth floor is devoted to Children’s, Intimate Apparel, and Coats/Swim. The store now carries a wide assortment of Kid’s shoes and girls and boys are able to shop newly added Adidas apparel.

In addition to the customer-facing renovations, several updates have been made to the employee amenities. Macy’s colleagues have a new locker room, lounge, and conference room.

Thursday, November 8th

At 6pm, Macy’s will host a Men’s Dressing workshop teaching men how to dress for all occasions. Rotimi from Starz’s hit show Power will serve as a guest model and customers will have an opportunity to meet and snap a photo with him. The President of 100 Black Men of America with host an engaging Q&A on the importance of personal presentation. RSVP here.

Friday, November 9th

At 10am, Soul Tigers Marching Band, Inc. will lead customers into the newly renovated Macy’s Downtown Brooklyn store for the official grand reopening ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, local city officials, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. The first 250 customers to enter the store via the Fulton Street doors will receive a $10 gift card* to use towards their purchase. *Gift card valid from 11/8/18 thru 11/11/18, while supplies last.

At 5pm in the Women’s department, customers can join Downtown Brooklyn’s MyStylist for a holiday dressing presentation and view exciting designs from Fashion Week Brooklyn.

At 6pm, Jonathan Fernandez from VH-1’s Love & Hip Hop will teach customers how to get the perfect the look for holiday gatherings with MAC cosmetics. RSVP here.

Saturday, November 10th

At 11am, the whole family is invited to check out the kid’s floor where costumed characters from PJ Masks TV show will meet and greet with their fans.

At 1pm, the Home department will host a tree decorating seminar.

2pm in the Shoe department on the Main Floor, try your luck as our Prince Charming searches for his queen! If the shoe fits, take home the pair.

At 3pm in the Home department, join host Gia Peppers for a celebration of holiday traditions with Chef Roblé. Stop by to listen to an intimate discussion of personal holiday traditions, his culinary art, and impact of the local community. Enjoy special evening with Chef Roblé while sampling some of his favorite holiday recipes. RSVP here.

Sunday, November 11th

Enjoy complimentary monogramming with any handbag purchase from 12pm – 4pm on the Main Floor.

At 12pm, customers can enjoy the sounds of Brooklyn throughout the store as several musical acts are featured.

Historical Background The former Macy’s Fulton Street store, founded by Abraham & Straus, has a unique architectural history dating back to the late 1800’s. The store, bounded by Gallatin Place and Fulton, Livingston and Hoyt Streets, is comprised of three buildings, each with its own distinct architectural style. The “French Building” dates back to 1873 and was designed in the Second Empire style while the newer extension was built in an Art Deco style in 1929. Added in 1947, the Livingston Street façade was also done in the Art Deco style to match the Fulton Street façade. Furthering the rich architecture is the Romanesque-style extension to Gallatin Place.
